You may remember a few weeks ago I set up a competition to name a brand new piano piece. The piece can be heard below.
I’m delighted to announce that the winner of the competition to name my new piano piece is Brynn Pitt who came along to the Ouseburn Open Studios weekend and whose answer chimed most closely with my thoughts on the composition.
For me, the piece evokes a sense of peace and tranquillity, with gentle dynamics and subtle fluctuations which create an intimate atmosphere - a soothing sonic landscape. It feels reflective and introspective, allowing listeners time to contemplate and for me it seems to inspire a feeling of longing. Overall, I felt a sense of timelessness and yearning, invoking feelings of contentment and nostalgia.
The new title of the the piece is ‘Halcyon’
Brynn will receive a written credit on the album that this track appears on as well as a limited edition print of the (yet to be created) artwork that will accompany this single release.
Thank you so much for taking the time to enter the competition. I have had more than 100 entries and it was a really interesting process to get such varied and thoughtful feedback on a piece like this. I hope you enjoyed taking part and I look forward to seeing you at a future live performance. All of my current live dates are in a previous post on Substack here as well as my website steveluck.com
Thanks for your continued support for independent music.
Kind regards
Steve
