Keynotes : Words to describe music
Welcome to this occasional series of brief posts where I describe a little of the inspiration behind a composition.

When I wrote this piece in 2016, I had in mind some words from a song of the same name by a fellow Northeast musician Martin Stephenson, who wrote that "Home isn't always the place where you were born, it’s just a light where love is strong”. I was really struck by how the word can mean so many different things and how it's something everyone can relate to. It can be a physical dwelling that provides shelter, comfort and security and yet it might also be an emotional sanctuary that embodies the feeling of belonging, acceptance, and love. This piece has long been a favourite at live concerts, and this is a recently re-recorded version performed on a felted piano.
